I remember when I had to be on antidepressants for post partum depression, I hated the fact that I couldn’t feel things as deeply as I usually could. I understood that was kind of the point, but I knew very quickly that I had to find a way forward that didn’t involve putting a damper on my ability to feel and express a full range of emotions. How I wish I had known about homeopathy back then!
One of our most beautiful homeopathic remedies for grief is Ignatia amara, made from the St. Ignatius Bean. Rather than suppressing emotion, homeopathic Ignatia works with the body to allow it to regulate itself – to feel all the feels without becoming overwhelmed by them. When my mother’s life was ending last year, Ignatia was a calm and steady companion for my daughters and me. When the pressure and worry of her care and ultimately the fact of her death threatened to bury us in grief, a single dose of Ignatia could lift the fog and help us to feel and see clearly what we know to be true: that this, too, would pass and that God was with us through it all.
